Spotlights Theater Presents Virtual Summer Youth Production:
A Killer Party: A Murder Mystery Musical
For its 2021 Summer Youth Production, the Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater will present A Killer Party: A Murder Mystery Musical, a hysterical, new virtual show that is available for streaming from June 18 through July 18. Originally written in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, this show features a toe-tapping musical score by Jason Howland, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and a book by Rachel Axler and Kait Kerrigan.
The show begins with the unexpected death of of Varthur McArthur, the artistic director of a failing theater in Minnesota, who has invited his troupe of disgruntled actors to the first reading of an “immersive murder mystery dinner party.” Detective Justine Case arrives on the scene and sequesters the guests into separate rooms (because, you know, social-distancing). She gets down to finding out whodunnit, uncovering secret affairs, life-long grudges, backstage drama, and a lot of musical theater song and dance.
The Spotlights’ production is co-directed by Tim Anderson and Ryan Bergeron and features a cast of talented young performers including Abbey Brinkhoff, Nicholas DeAngelis, James Newton, Ian Stewart, Livy Douglas, Izzy Brashear, Owen Mills, Kassie Schill, Nicholas Beiser, and Kyla Burks. Spotlights’ favorites Tara Corkery and Dylan Grosh-Hoy also join the cast in special cameo performances. The show is co-produced by Karen Johnston and Peggy Newton.
Household streaming tickets cost $22.50 and may be purchased at www.broadview-heights-spotlights.org.
A Killer Party is presented in a special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
