Hazardous Household Waste Collection

The City of Berea will be collecting Household Hazardous Waste and unused and outdated electronics on Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7. Drop off the items from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Berea Service Garage, 400 Barrett Road.

The service is free and is for Berea residents only. No businesses are eligible to take part.

These household hazardous materials will be accepted:

Oil or solvent-based paint, sealers, primers or coatings (aerosol or liquid), varnishes, polyurethanes, shellacs, paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine, pesticides, pool chemicals, automotive fluids, motor oil, adhesives, roof tar, driveway sealer, kerosene, gasoline and lighter fluid.

Four-foot-long T-8 and T-12 fluorescent light bulbs will be accepted.

Tires from passenger cars also can be dropped off. Tires must be 20 inches or less with no rims. There is a limit of two tires per household. No truck, motorcycle or bicycle tires will be accepted.

These materials will NOT be accepted:

Latex paint, batteries, explosives, propane tanks, gun powder, ammunition, flares, medical waste, pharmaceuticals, medicine, radioactive waste (smoke detectors), mercury vapor light bulbs or appliances.

These electronics will be accepted:

Desktop computers, towers, laptops, computer monitors, keyboards and peripherals, printers, modems, tablets, e-readers, telecom devices, networking equipment, cables, cell phones and video game systems.

NO TELEVISIONS. Residents can put TVs on the tree lawn for bulk pickup.

NO SHRED FEST. The next paper shredding will be Nov. 4.
