Tuesday, January 18 - 7:00 PM

Cleveland Peace Action presents a distinguished and remarkable guest, Palestinian scientist, author, and activist Mazin Qumsiyeh, PhD, January 18, 2022, 7:00 PM EST. He is founder and director of the Palestine Museum of Natural History and the Palestine Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability at Bethlehem University where he teaches. After serving on the faculties of U.S. Universities - Duke, Yale, and the University of Tennessee - he has dedicated his time to researching and teaching at Bethlehem and Birzeit Universities since 2008. He has published several books and over 150 scientific papers on topics ranging from cultural heritage to biodiversity. He also serves on the board of several Palestinian youth and service organizations. He volunteers his knowledge to advocate for environmental education programs and his own activism for human rights. See
Professor Qumsiyeh will present Part I in our series “Recognizing Settler Colonialism.” He will outline the "diagnostics" of the Occupation of Palestine, followed by the "therapies" he practices and prescribes. He feels it's not helpful to focus on the grievances, which are overwhelming, but rather to name them and then address solutions. He agrees with Buckminster Fuller’s adage, "[y]ou never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
